Mauritius has a good road system which consist of the following main types of roads: motorway, main roads and secondary roads. The motorway consist of the following, passing through the main towns and villages :
The main and secondary roads run across the island in villages, towns, along sugarcane fields and many of them provide beautiful panoramic views. For instance, the Baie Du Cap Coastal Road has been ranked as the 10th most beautiful road in the world by Le Petit Futé.
Further to the above, it is easy to access all parts of the island via the interlinked road system in Mauritius. This makes our island easy to drive through to reach any location that you wish to.
There are some important guidelines to consider while driving in Mauritius. Similar to the British Driving system, in Mauritius we drive on the left and give way to the traffic coming from the right.
In line with our well maintained road system, it is easy to drive around the island. The main towns of the island, including Port Louis, Ebene and Rose Hill, have heavy traffic during peak hours (in the morning from 08h00 to 09h00 and in the afternoon from 16h00 to 18h00). For the other parts of the island, the traffic is fluid.
Furthermore, gas stations are located in different parts of the island thus making it easier for you to fill your car tank in whatever region you are. They usually operate from 05h00 to 23h00 and most of them accept payment by debit/credit cards. Some of them even operate 24 hours a day. The price of fuel is set by the Government of Mauritius and it varies from MUR 49.00/Litre to MUR 51.00/Litre (EUR 1,30/ USD 1,50) approximately.
All our fleet of vehicles come along an insurance cover which consist of the following (with a deductible or excess which varies from EUR 380 to EUR 700 depending on the type of vehicle):
In the event that the damage costs are less than the above mentioned excess amount, we have an agreement with the client and request gently to settle accordingly.
The insurance cover is excluded in the following cases (but not limited to the below):
